This week, we will be concentrating on our article review, which will be on the topic....:
"Issues of Original & Licensed Software vs. Illegal/ Pirated Software"
We chose this topic as we felt that it was quite interesting. We researched this topic from many sources, namely journals, book sections, news reports, and online sources.
So our question is this... What do you know about 'Software Piracy'? What are its effects towards society? On the other hand, what are the advantages of using the more costly original software instead of the pirated ones?
To answer all these questions (and an interesting issue on "The Use of Pirated Software for Education"), here is the link to our Article Review...

Reflection Week 7 (after holidays!)
So it has been a wonderful, one-week break for us!! Again, holidays are never enough, and work never do really finish....
For this subject, this past two weeks were used for our tutorial presentation on the topic 'Graphics'. This is our second last task, in addition to the article review and the updating of this blog.
Therefore, the holidays were spent wisely, as we managed to find two articles related to the topic Technology. We are currently considering two articles, both written by Gardner Campbell. He is the Director of Professional Development and Innovative Initiatives in the Division of Learning Technologies, as well as Associate Professor of English.
In other words, he's a somebody both in the world of education and technology.
And he writes well too. Check out his blog here: http://www.gardnercampbell.net/
So, the two articles (Podcasting in Education & A Personal Infrastructure) that we narrowed down are uploaded in Google Docs:
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B9klbPPsBwMVNzY1Yjg4MGEtZTBmZC00YTlhLTlkNTAtNWYwMGEzYzE4YTM3
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B9klbPPsBwMVMzE4MmY5YWMtZWE2Zi00MmU1LWJkZDQtYThlMTYyNTYxMmRi
The final selection will be made as soon as we finish discussing about the review. Therefore, feel free to read those articles above, and enjoy the new week ahead!

Reflection Week 6 (Lesson Plan/ Micro Teaching)
This week, we finally did our micro teaching an lesson plan presentation!
Our group members are as follows:
After all the preparation and task division, it finally boils down to this moment... Thankfully, I felt that everything went on quite smoothly, and although there were a few minor amendments regarding our lesson plan, we took it as a positive learning experience.
Mr. Sarihan did a good job in providing constructive feedback, all of which is absolutely useful for our practicum later on.
After some minor editing this is our full lesson plan on Poetry Recital:

Reflection Week 5 (CASPER Model)
This week, we learnt about the CASPER Model. It is an acronym for:
C - Contrast
A - Alignment
S - Simplicity
P - Proximity
E - Emphasis
R - Repetition
The CASPER Model is actually characteristics of good graphics and text layout in a PowerPoint presentation. And, although we did a lot of PPts during this course, we could still find room for improvement in designing our slides, all through this model.
This is the link to the PPt on CASPER, whereby I have uploaded it online through Google Docs:
https://docs.google.com/present/edit?id=0AdklbPPsBwMVZGNjZnN3N3NfMzRmdnpudjJjNQ&hl=en_US
Happy Learning!

Reflection Week 4 (Blog Presentation)
Earlier this week, each of us presented our individual blogs briefly in front of the class. It was fun, because I get to see all the different and creative work by others as well. There are so many interesting gadgets and animations in some of our blogs that were very nice.
For mine, as you can see, I inserted my Podcast on top, and also a calender, a clock, and a chatbox. Although my blog is pretty simple, but I am really proud of it. It takes time and effort in designing this work of art, and I think that everyone in the class did a wonderful job.
A special thanks to Mr. Sarihan as well for all the positive feedback and encouragements.
Now, moving on to the next task - Designing a PowerPoint as a teaching tool.... We would be inserting the previous video clip that we have designed into the PowerPoint. Then, it would be presented in class.
So, let's continue marching on to a productive (hopefully) week ahead!!

Reflection Week 3 (MovieMaker)
This week, our class was given a task to create a short movie clip on anything related to the teaching of English. In other words, we were to create a multimedia teaching tool that is both interesting and educational.
Our group (me, Suk Hua, Xin Txin, Ilanggo & Leon), came up with one which focuses on 'Poetry Recital'.
After a series of discussion, we decided to choose to select this particular topic as we felt that it would be quite different from others; and since all of us have good basics in both theory and application (recital), we went ahead with it.
For my part, I would be concentrating on the Introduction, and Voice Control.
Firstly, I came up with a rough script. Then, after polishing it (and after several attempts), I recorded my voice to be later inserted in the video.
To make life easier, I divided my narrations into two sections; the first half consisting of the Introduction to Poetry Recital, and the other half moved on to Voice & Voice Control Exercise.
Then came the video part. This was more time-consuming as quite some research needed to be done. After extracting the main points, I designed PowerPoint slides - by inserting the main points, adding pictures, and designing the background and fonts respectively.
For this project, we used Windows MovieMaker, which again, is quite user-friendly. It is a bit similar to PowerPoint, especially the Transitions and Animations. Then came the next headache - inserting the PowerPoint slides into MovieMaker.
The first real trouble happened when I found out that I couldn't copy-and-paste the slides to MovieMaker! After several failed attempts, I resorted to designing a template inside MovieMaker itself. However, the graphic options are not as rich as PowerPoint, which is also something that I'm more familiar with.
So, moving on to Plan C. This was what I did:
1. First of all, I copied the PowerPoint slides one at a time.
2. Then, I pasted it in Paint.
3. I saved the image and numbered it for easy reference and insertion.
4. Lastly, from the 'Tasks" bar, I imported the pictures to the current project.
Whee! However, the task is far from over. After a series of editing (transitions, animations, adding subtitles), I added in my previous recording (Import audio/music). This part was also time-consuming as I needed to synchronise my voice to the video length (timing).
So, after saving everything, I sent my video clip section over to Suk Hua, who did a perfect job of combining all our video clips...
So...are you ready...?! (drum rolls please....) Presenting: "Poetry Recital" by Doris Chelam Kasturi, Ting Suk Hua, Chong Xin Txin, Ilanggo Kanan, and Leon Lennie Lening...!

Reflection Week 2 (Podcast)
For this week, I did a self-introduction episode through http://www.podomatic.com/
First, I registered as a first-time user and created my account. Then, I uploaded my photo and created a Podcast, an audio-recorded self-introduction, which could be viewed below:
http://doris-enter.podomatic.com/entry/2011-10-02T14_13_13-07_00
After saving and downloading it, I took embedded my Podcast to my blog (in sidebar).
A new experience altogether, I had fun exploring the site and its contents. The audio quality was surprisingly good, besides being user-friendly, which is a major plus point for a first-time user like me.
All in all, I feel that Podcast will be extremely useful for my future projects, whether in Educational Technology or for other subjects. Therefore, the basic knowledge that I have gained through this mini task (to create a self-introduction Podcast) is definitely invaluable.

Reflection Week 1
Welcome to my very own blog!
For this semester, we will be taking a course on Educational Technology, which I feel is quite a challenge to me. However, with the basics that I have gained from the previous course, Computer in Education, I feel more confident this time.
As this is the second blog that I've ever created, I will try my very best to polish up some rough edges and maintain it as best as I could.
And for the next worrying assignments, I will do my level best to produce quality work, this I vow!! It is truly a comfort to know that I have support from my friends and lecturer (Mr. Sarihan), and that with a positive attitude, I would hopefully get through this course and gain invaluable experience as well as skills that would assist in my teaching practice.
Lastly, this are the sites where I got all the cool gadgets found here:
www.clocklink.com
www.mylivesignature.com
celestinelsw.blogspot.com
www.shoutmix.com
So before I end this, take a look at my complete signature as well!

(Introduction)
Hello! My name is Doris Chelam Kasturi, and I am from Kuching, Sarawak. I am currently in IPG Kampus Sarawak, Miri, under the B.ED TESL UKM-IPG Twinning Programme.
I love reading, playing badminton, and watching movies - particularly horror ones! If there is a motto that would perfectly describe me, it would be "Work Hard, Play Hard". I also believe in the concept of "Eat to Live, and Live to Eat", which explains my other love for good food!
And as a final note, I hope that this course that I'm taking now - Educational Technology - will be a fruitful learning experience for everyone.
Peace out! ~
